The story behind the place
County deeds and tax research dates the original house to 1852. I. W. Snuggs bought it in 1873 and added a second story by the mid-1880s. It served museum functions from 1974. Foundation repairs followed in 2012 and roofing work in 2013.
Its changing structure shows how a modest dwelling grew with a household and how later restorers investigated the original fabric.
