In Grateful Remembrance — WWII, Korea & Vietnam
A courthouse memorial to sacrifice and service in three conflicts.
The longer story.
Outside the Stanly County Courthouse, this memorial recognizes county citizens who died in service and those who served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Its inscription uses 1941–1945, 1950–1955 and 1964–1975 respectively. Those are the date spans on this object; they should not automatically be substituted for the combat dates used by every historical account.
A separate World War I memorial stands beside it. The two records therefore describe two distinct commemorative objects at essentially the same address, not duplicate entries for one monument. HMdb photographed this memorial in April 2024. Its published transcription does not provide a roll of names or a county casualty total.

How to read this place.
Read the dedication’s two purposes separately: honoring those who died and recognizing everyone who served. Neither group can be counted from the short inscription. Compare the date spans with the Liberty Gardens memorial, which uses different Korea and Vietnam end dates. That difference is a prompt to investigate commemorative conventions, rather than an invitation to silently rewrite either stone.
