Orchestral music on this scale doesn’t come to Stanly County often. On Sunday, Nov. 1, the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra performs a full-length afternoon concert at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center, presented by the Stanly County Arts Council. The Arts Council lists a program of works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert and Aaron Copland, curated by Resident Conductor Christopher James Lees.
The concert nearly didn’t happen. Earlier this year the Arts Council ran a “Save the Symphony” appeal through the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce member news, saying it needed to raise $12,000 or the performance would be canceled. The concert now appears on the Arts Council calendar with tickets on sale.
